Requesting approval for Aurora Downtown to hold the first Downer Place Block Party in conjunction First Friday's on Friday, May 6, 2016 from 5:00 to 10:00 pm. between Stolp and Hoyt

PURPOSE:
By adding the block party aspect to First Friday it will enhance the already festival like atmosphere of the event and create a central gathering space.
BACKGROUND:
First Friday's started here in September of 2013. Its popularity has been growing steadily since the beginning and is now a monthly event attended by thousands.
DISCUSSION:
Closing off Downer, between Stolp and Hoyt will allow for a small stage and several food trucks to supplement the twelve to fifteen additional venues.
A Certificate of Insurance will be provided by Aurora Downtown.
IMPACT STATEMENT:
Traffic will need to be diverted to Benton or Galena at Stolp Ave. and at River Street. A barricade package and signage from the Street Department will be developed.
Access to available electric and additional trash containers is requested.
The event organizers are responsible for informing the businesses within a block radius of the impending street closure.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
I request the proposed event be forwarded to the Government Operations Committee for review and approval.
