Requesting permission for the Aurora Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (AHCC) to hold the annual Fiestas Patrias Parade on Sunday, September 14, 2014 in the downtown.

PURPOSE:
The purpose of Fiestas Patrias is to celebrate Mexican Independence Day. This is done with both a downtown parade and a two-day festival at RiverEdge Park.
 
BACKGROUND:
This is the 5th year the AHCC has hosted the Fiestas Patrias parade and festival. The parade will utilize the approved Memorial Day route with the reviewing stand located in front of the DLP Art & History Center.  The pre-parade ceremony begins at 10:45 with the parade stepping off at 11:30. The units stage along River Street from Benton to Gale.
 
DISCUSSION:
Parade organizers are responsible for contacting several City departments to arrange for services per the attached application. These include several of those in the Impact Statement below.  
 
IMPACT STATEMENT:
Support from the following City Departments/Divisions is requested: APD, Streets, MVPS, Electrical, Water & Sewer, Downtown Maintenance and Special Events. A City Services Request is included as an attachment.
 
RECOMMENDATIONS:
I request the proposed parade be forwarded to the Government Operations Committee.
