SUBJECT:title

The Fox Valley Park District is requesting permission to close Blackhawk from Galena to New York on Wednesday, October 18, 2017 from 2:00 to 6:00 pm for the Blackhawk Park Opening.

PURPOSE:

The FVPD is requesting permission to close the 0-100 block of Blackhawk to stage the Blackhawk Park Opening Celebration.

 

BACKGROUND:

This is the location of the former West Aurora High School, Franklin Middle School and Aurora Christian High School and is now being dedicated as Blackhawk Park.

 

DISCUSSION:

Because of the sites history, citizen interest will be high and the event is expected to be well attended.  The showmoblie will be set up on Blackhawk and serve as the stage for the program.

 

Guest will be asked to park in the neighborhood as well as the New England Congregational Church lot.  A temporary pedestrian crossing will be set up adjacent to the church parking lot with assistance from both APD and FVPD Police. 

 
There are no direct city costs associated with this event. 

 

 

IMPACT STATEMENT:

Assistance from the following Departments/Divisions is requested:

APD to liaise with FVPD police on traffic issues and pedestrian crossing at Blackhawk and Galena. 

Use of two electronic message boards for Galena, just east and west of the park to alert drivers to the pedestrian crossing (Water & Sewer and APD)

Street Department to deliver barricades to the following at 8:00 am on October 18:

Blackhawk and Galena: 2 Class III and 2 Class I

Blackhawk and New York: 2 Class III and 2 Class I

Alley in the middle of the 0-100 block of Blackhawk: 3 Class I

Pick up any time after 7:00 that evening. 

 

RECOMMENDATIONS:

 I request the proposed event be forwarded to the Government Operations Committee for review and approval.
