title Resolution Requesting Authority to Purchase Seven WatchGuard 4RE In-Car Camera Systems for use with the Police Department's WatchGuard In-Car Video System in the Amount not to Exceed $36,000.00

body
Purpose:
The Police Department requests the permission to purchase seven WatchGuard 4RE in-car camera systems.  These additional cameras are necessary for use with the WatchGuard in-car camera system already in place, and will be used to supplement our original purchase of one hundred cameras.  The additional cameras will allow us to install cameras in our entire patrol fleet.

Background:
The Police Department purchased one hundred cameras in early 2013, for the purpose of equipping our entire patrol fleet with operational in-car video cameras.  The original count of 100 vehicles fell short by seven, as there were new vehicles added to the fleet for the K-9 unit, and a slight miscalculation.

Discussion:
The Police Department secured a COPS Technology Grant in 2009.  The Police Department intends to use the COPS Technology Grant for the purchase of the seven additional WatchGuard 4RE in-car camera systems.  Currently, the funds are in 101-3536-421.63-09.

Recommendation:
I recommend that the Finance Committee and the City of Council authorize the purchase of seven additional WatchGuard in-car camera systems, for an amount not to exceed $36,000.00.
