SUBJECT:
Resolution authorizing the purchase and installation of a backup emergency generator, transfer switch and required wiring for Aurora fire station 3 from Frank Marshall Electric Inc of Aurora IL.

PURPOSE:
To purchase and install a backup emergency generator, transfer switch and required wiring at Aurora fire station 3.

BACKGROUND:
Having backup emergency generators at fire stations will allow continued operations in the event of commercial power failure.

DISCUSSION:
The Aurora Fire Department wishes to equip all of the fire stations in the City of Aurora with backup emergency generators to provide electricity during times of electrical outages from severe weather or other incidents.

Three of the nine fire stations have backup emergency generators already installed, this project will begin the process of installing backup emergency generators at the remaining stations. Fire station number 3 at Indian Trail and Highland is the Westside Battalion headquarters and the fueling depot for the Westside fire apparatus.

A bid specification was developed and published, at a bid opening (16-38) on August 31, 2016 there were five bids were submitted. Kluber Inc and the Aurora Fire Department evaluated the bids and recommends that we accept the bid from Frank Marshall electric Inc.

IMPACT STATEMENT:
Failure to provide electrical power to fire stations may impact emergency operations and response.

RECOMMENDATIONS:
That the finance Committee accept the bid from Frank Marshall Electric Inc and approve the purchase and installation of a backup emergency generator, transfer switch and required wiring for the Aurora Fire Department station 3 at a cost of $123,200.
