SUBJECT:title
Traffic Study for Barnes Road in the 200 block. Ward 5, Alderman Franco.
body
PURPOSE:
Traffic Study for Barnes Road in the 200 block, between the north and south intersections with Midfield Drive.
BACKGROUND:
A Resident submitted PS # 1833225 expressing concern with speeds on Barnes Road in the 200 block, between the north and south intersections with Midfield Drive.
DISCUSSION:
Barnes Road heading north from Prairie Road is a two-lane, well-marked county roadway with a speed limit of 40 mph. It is classified as a Minor Collector. The pavement is fully marked with yellow center-lies and white edge of pavement markings. The speed limit drops to 30 mph when it arrives at the south end of Midfield Drive. The east side of the 200 block of Barnes road has residential homes.
Traffic counters on this section of Barnes Road revealed an ADT of 1,350 VPD. Speeds were found to average 36 mph, with a 85th percentile of 41 mph and a median of 36 mph.
The traffic volume is on the low end of streets within the City. There is a very specific AM peak northbound that represents 15% of the total daily volume. This roadway does technically qualify for traffic calming. However, no vertical roadway elements are recommended.
IMPACT STATEMENT:
No impact at this time.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
Staff recommends acceptance of the Traffic Study.
