A Traffic Study for N. Root Street in the 150 block. Ward 2, Alderman Garza.
body
PURPOSE:
A Traffic Study for N. Root Street in the 150 block to determine Traffic Speeds.
BACKGROUND:
A Resident submitted ACR Case ID 125930 requesting Speed Bumps at Fred Rodgers School at 157 N. Root Street.
DISCUSSION:
A Traffic Study was conducted for five weekdays on N. Root Street while school was in session. The ADT is 3,200 vpd. The Average and Mode Speeds were both 25 mph. The 85th percentile was just below 30 mph. The roadway is two lanes wide not including the allowed parking on the west side only. Root Street signed for 'No Parking Any Time" on east side for northbound traffic. On Root Street there is a painted double yellow offset to the east. This allows for appropriate roadway with on the west side for both parking and a south bound thru lane.
This roadway does not qualify for traffic calming based on speeds. More importantly average speeds are lower during heavy pedestrian activity associated with the school.
IMPACT STATEMENT:
No impact
RECOMMENDATIONS:
Staff recommends denial.
