SUBJECT:
Resolution to purchase a Bobcat S770 skid steer with attachments from Atlas Bobcat 490 Topsoil Dr. West Chicago, IL 60185 plus a trade-in allowance of $10,500.00 for a total amount of $56,220.00 as a sole source

PURPOSE:
The Street Maintenance Division ("Streets") uses skid steers for many of their road and forestry maintenance operations due to their versatility. These machines are smaller than a wheel loader so they can operate in tight spaces.

BACKGROUND:
Streets has two skid steers in their fleet. Unit 48-373 is a 1997 New Holland LX865 skid steer with over 3,200 hours of operation and it has been approved for replacement in the 2014 budget.

Street Maintenance Worker III ("Operators") demoed three different makes of skid steers that had similar horsepower ratings. The manufacturers and models were the Bobcat - S770, CAT - 272D, and New Holland -L230 (see attached comparison). The operators' preferred (see attached email the Bobcat S770 due to the hand controls, comfort, visibility, safety, the number of attachments that are available plus the ease of maintenance and serviceability

The Bobcat S770 Skid Steer is listed on the NJPA Contract #060311-CEC for $50,829.54. Atlas Bobcat Quotation # 9854D010791 for the identical unit with radio, freight and dealer prep is quoted at $48,441.00 which is under the NJPA contract pricing. Additional attachments include 24" asphalt planner, 74" Grapple bucket, and pallet forks for $18,279.00. The entire proposal is for a total of $66,720.00. Atlas also provided a $10,500 trade-in allowance for unit 48-373 which makes the net purchase price $56,220.00

DISCUSSION:
The in 2014 budget, account 215-4460-431.7499 there is $95,000 reserved to fund this purchase.
