SUBJECT:title

A Traffic Study for Taylor Avenue.  Ward 6, Alderman Saville.

body

PURPOSE:

A Traffic Study for Taylor Avenue to determine traffic volume and speed.

BACKGROUND:

A resident submitted PS # 3119103 expressing concern regarding traffic volume and speed on Taylor Avenue.  Resident requests speed bump, "Children at Play " signage, and speed limit signage.

DISCUSSION:

Taylor Avenue is classified as residential, with a speed limit of 25 mph.  It has full curb, gutter, and sidewalk.  There is not any parking restriction signage on the roadway.  The roadway is 29.5-ft in width.

A traffic study mid-block on Taylor Avenue revealed an ADT of 550 vph, with average speeds of 23 mph.

"Children At Play" warning signs are no longer recommended, since they may encourage children to play in the street and parents to be less vigilant.

Traffic calming is not warranted due to collected vehicle speeds averaging 23 mph.

IMPACT STATEMENT:

No action due to recommendation.

RECOMMENDATIONS:

Staff does not recommend additional signage or traffic calming measures.
