SUBJECT:
Requesting the adoption of the 2015 Kane County Hazard Mitigation Plan.

PURPOSE:
Adoption of the Kane County Hazard Mitigation Plan allows the City of Aurora to receive Federal funding for hazard mitigation projects.

BACKGROUND:
The City of Aurora has adopted the Kane County Hazard Mitigation Plan since 2003. By adopting the Kane County Hazard Mitigation Plan the city meets the necessary requirements to obtain Federal funding for Hazard Mitigation Projects.


DISCUSSION:
The Kane County Hazard Mitigation Plan is a 331 page document. A link has been attached to review of the document. Although the link contains the date of 2010, it will actually link to the 2015 update.

IMPACT STATEMENT:
Failure to adopt this plan would make the City of Aurora ineligible for Federal hazard mitigation funds.

RECOMMENDATIONS:
I request approval and adoption of the 2015 Kane County Hazard Mitigation Plan.

WHEREAS, the City of Aurora has a population of more than 25,000 persons and is, therefore, a home rule unit under subsection (a) of Section 6 of Article VII of the Illinois Constitution of 1970; and

WHEREAS, subject to said Section, a home rule unit may exercise any power and perform any function pertaining to its government and affairs for the protection of the public health, safety, morals, and welfare; and
