A Resolution Authorizing the Execution of a Historic Preservation Grant Agreement with Jordan Jeffries for 424 W. New York Street (Jordan Jeffries - 19-0807 / AU21/2-19.165-HP/GR - JM - Ward 6)

PURPOSE:
Exhibit "A" is a resolution authorizing the execution of a Historic Preservation Grant Agreement with Jordan Jeffries for the property at 424 W. New York Street. Pursuant to the Agreement Jordan Jeffries will receive up to $21,000.00 toward the renovation of the building including exterior plaster repair, replacement of front steps, replacing gutters with 6" 1/2 round steel gutters and round downspouts along with painting entire house including trim, porch, windows, and replacing porch stairs. Work can be prioritized based upon cost with approval from staff but must include plaster repair.

BACKGROUND:
The property is within the Tanner Historic District. The building is an owner-occupied two-unit. The building was built c. 1890s in an altered Craftman style.

DISCUSSION:
Staff has reviewed the grant application and have determined that it meets the applicable codes and ordinances. The proposal is consistent with the City of Aurora Historic Districts and Landmarks Guidelines.

On September 5, 2019, the Historic Preservation Commission reviewed the 45 applications submitted for the 2019 Historic Preservation Grant Program. The application process was highly competitive with many worthwhile projects. Staff was able to combine the $100,000 City Council allocated in 2018 for preservation funds with funding issued in past years from previous grant projects that were never used or came in under budget for a total of $180,000 to be used towards the 2019 Historic Preservation Grant Program.
