SUBJECT:

A resolution appointing Wanda Malone to the Advisory Commission on Disabilities.

 

BACKGROUND:

In October of 2018, the City Council approved the creation of a new advisory committee focused on better supporting persons with disabilities in Aurora.

 

DISCUSSION:

This nine (9) member commission is in need of new members. Wanda has been recommended by other members on the commission, and will represent Ward 10.

 

IMPACT STATEMENT:

Approval of this appointment will provide much needed support to the current commissioners.

 

RECOMMENDATIONS:

It is respectfully requested the nominated member be appointed to the Advisory Commission on Disabilities.

WHEREAS, the City of Aurora has a population of more than 25,000 persons and is, therefore, a home rule unit under subsection (a) of Section 6 of Article VII of the Illinois Constitution of 1970; and

 

WHEREAS, subject to said Section, a home rule unit may exercise any power and perform any function pertaining to its government and affairs for the protection of the public health, safety, morals, and welfare; and

 

WHEREAS, the Advisory Commission on Disabilities is in need of members.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Aurora, Illinois, that the term of Wanda Malone shall expire January 31, 2023; however, in any event she shall continue to serve until reappointed or her respective replacement has been approved by the City Council.
