A Resolution appointing Paloma Arroyo, Blanca Monarrez Saavedra and Casildo Cuevas and reappointing Barbara Hernandez to the Aurora Hispanic Heritage Advisory Board.
DISCUSSION:
The Aurora Hispanic Heritage Advisory Board (AHHAB) is a non-partisan, community-based, seventeen (17) member advisory board that supports and participates in activities that promote a deeper understanding of the Hispanic community. In addition to supporting community-wide events in Aurora, the AHHAB also hosts two major annual events, El Dia de los Ninos and a Community Breakfast. In 2015, the board is also hosting Fiestas Patrias at RiverEdge Park. There are currently vacancies on the board as well as expired terms.
RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended the City Council approve the proposed appointments and reappointment to the Aurora Hispanic Heritage Advisory Board.

WHEREAS, the City of Aurora has a population of more than 25,000 persons and is, therefore, a home rule unit under subsection (a) of Section 6 of Article VII of the Illinois Constitution of 1970; and
WHEREAS, subject to said Section, a home rule unit may exercise any power and perform any function pertaining to its government and affairs for the protection of the public health, safety, morals, and welfare; and
WHEREAS, vacancies and expired terms currently exist on the Aurora Hispanic Heritage Advisory Board; and
WHEREAS, it is the Mayor's desire that the recommended candidates be appointed and reappointed to said board.
