SUBJECT:title
A Traffic Study on Bilter Road at the Prairie Path.  Ward 1, Alderman Bohman
body
PURPOSE:
To study signage at the Prairie Path where it crosses Bilter Road.

BACKGROUND:
A Resident submitted ACR Case ID 99171 expressing concern for signage at the Pedestrian/Bicycle path known as Prairie Path where it crosses Bilter Road.

DISCUSSION:
Bilter Road has a Speed Limit of 30 mph.  Site distance in both directions on Bilter Road is good but roadside visibility is limited.  The Prairie Path has STOP signs on both approaches, as well as CROSS TRAFFIC DOES NOT STOP signage.
The crossing is marked on Bilter Road with Bicycle Crossing signage from both Bilter Road approaches.

Resident suggests adding a "Stop for Pedestrian" sign in the middle of Bilter Road.  Staff does not recommend supplementing existing signage with in road signage.   The 85th% speed are in the 36MPH range.  The west approach is a township roadway while the east approach is City of Aurora.   Installation of this sign in this area would present a hazard to the motoring public given roadway geometry and lighting.

IMPACT STATEMENT:
No action is recommended at this time.

RECOMMENDATIONS:
Staff recommends acceptance of traffic study.
