PURPOSE:
The American Diabetes Association is requesting approval of its application to hold a bike rides of 10, 20, 40, 65,100 mile routes to raise critical funds for diabetes research, education, advocacy, through this bike ride fundraiser.
BACKGROUND:
Initially, the American Diabetes routes were not based in Aurora and would just go through Illinois Avenue to get to the Fox River Trail. Two years ago, they proposed to base rides out of Aurora at Two Brothers Roundhouse, which would be the start and end location. This is the 3rd year they are proposing to hold this event with Two Brothers Roundhouse as the start/end location.
DISCUSSION:
The American Diabetes Association is expecting 1,500 participants and at least several hundred staff/volunteers to help. They have applied for a variety of other City permits for planned after bike ride activities in the parking lot of Two Brothers Roundhouse.
IMPACT STATEMENT:
City services are needed from the Aurora Police Department Traffic Control Division for guiding bike riders at the start of the race onto Broadway, and crossing Broadway. The organizers will have to seek direct approval from the Division Director of Downtown Services for any use/plans for the Aurora Transportation Center parking lot. Some cones may be needed from Streets Maintenance Division.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
Please forward to the Government Operations Committee for approval.
