TO: Aurora City Council

FROM: Mayor Thomas J. Weisner

DATE: October 16, 2014

SUBJECT:
A Resolution Appointing members to the Indian American Community Outreach Advisory Board.

PURPOSE:
The purpose of this memo is to recommend the appointment of two members to the Indian American Community Outreach Advisory Board.

DISCUSSION:
The Indian American Community Outreach Advisory Board (IACOAB) was established in December, 2013. The board was created in response to requests from members of the Indian American community looking to become more involved with the City of Aurora.

The IACOAB was modeled after the City of Aurora's two other cultural/heritage boards, the Aurora Hispanic Heritage Advisory Board and the African American Heritage Advisory Board. Similar to the other two boards, the IACOAB provides opportunities to engage members of the Indian American Community (in and outside of Aurora) with the city, in addition to promoting civic engagement at the local level and enhanced communication with the business community.

The first round of candidates was appointed in June of 2014. Following the success of the board's first event, Diwali, staff has recommended the appointment of two additional candidates.

RECOMMENDATION:
Attached is information for each of the proposed candidates for your review, I would appreciate your favorable consideration of these recommendations. If you should have any questions, please contact Alex Voigt in my office.
