A Parking Study for Greenleaf Court. Ward 5, Alderman Franco.
body
PURPOSE:
A Parking Study for Greenleaf Court to determine if existing NO PARKING THIS SIDE signage, on south side of Court, should be relocated to north side of Court (fire hydrant side).
BACKGROUND:
Existing NO PARKING THIS SIDE signage was installed November 2012, along the south side of the Court. GO recommendation, at the time, called for signs to be placed on fire hydrant side of Court, which is the north side. Original GO recommendation restricted parking on one side of the Court to improve emergency vehicle, snow plow, trash collection and delivery vehicle access. Resident recently contacted the Ward Alderman to request if signs could be relocated to the fire hydrant side of the Court.
DISCUSSION:
Greenleaf Court is a residential roadway, 23 feet in width with a 25 mph speed limit. Greenleaf Court does have existing on-street parking in the cul-de-sac median and along the north side of the Court. The relocation of NO PARKING THIS SIDE signage, from the south side to north side of the Court, would create additional on-street parking for the Court and mitigate the need to maintain the existing yellow painted curb, along the south side of the court, used for driveways and fire hydrants. It continues to be City practice, in restricting parking on one side of a street, to install signage on the fire hydrant side.
IMPACT STATEMENT:
Street Department resources for relocating signage.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
Staff recommends relocating NO PARKING THIS SIDE signage, from the south side to the north side of the Court.
