DATE: December 31, 2018

SUBJECT:
Requesting the approval to purchase a used 2016 Ford F550 aerial bucket truck for the Electrical Maintenance Division from Altec Industries, as a sole source, for $98,945.00.

PURPOSE:
To assure that the Electrical Maintenance Division has dependable equipment to perform their daily work objectives and to improve technician call response times.

BACKGROUND:
Unit number 42-362 is a 2002 Ford F450 utility truck which has surpassed the expected service life and has been approved for replacement in the 2019 budget. The Electrical Maintenance Division currently operates two aerial bucket trucks and has requested to replace the outgoing utility truck with an aerial bucket truck.

DISCUSSION:
Altec Industries, located at 2106 S. Riverside Rd., St. Joseph, MO 64507 has a used 2016 Ford F550 equipped with an Altec AT40G/JEMS hybrid aerial bucket apparatus for a quoted sale price of $98,945.00. This unit is a demonstrator with less than two hundred engine hours and was inspected and is currently being operated by City electricians.

The aerial apparatus that is installed on this truck is a hybrid design, which will allow City electricians to perform repairs to overhead lights and fixtures without the noise and exhaust emissions normally associated with conventional internal combustion engine powered models.

The purchase of this 2016 F550 hybrid aerial bucket truck will provide Aurora's Electrical Maintenance Division with a dependable and efficient truck, enhance operational response times, and will also promote the City's Green Fleet initiative to decrease vehicle emissions.

In addition to retiring the previously mentioned 42-362, the Electrical Division will be turning in 42-319, a 2009 Ford F150, which will be repurposed to a different City division.
