SUBJECT:title
A Parking Study for George Avenue in the 800 block. Ward 3, Alderman Mesiacos.
body
PURPOSE:
A Parking Study for George Avenue in the 800 block, specifically at the eastern Dead End.
BACKGROUND:
A Resident submitted ACR Case ID 126091 pointing out that when the High School just one block to the south lets out, the Dead End is always congested with vehicles stopped and standing, waiting to pick up students.
DISCUSSION:
George Avenue is a Residential Street with a Speed Limit of 25 mph. The asphalt is freshly replaced and the roadway has new curb and gutter. The width is the city standard of 29.5-ft. But when George Avenue was separated from Smith Street, thus creating the Dead End, it was left without a turn-around area. The congestion, including cars parked on both sides of the roadway and then trying to make a turn around, is bothering Residents who complain that getting in or out of their driveways is becoming a chore during this time. The north side of George Avenue has NO PARKING THIS SIDE signage, and the southern side has NO STOPPING STANDING OR PARKING signage.
Significant parking restrictions are already in place on George Avenue. However, staff will recommend No Parking anytime 35-feet from the end of the dead end on both sides of George Avenue and at the very end.
IMPACT STATEMENT:
Operations will be required to install signage.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
Staff recommends additional No Parking Anytime signage.
