SUBJECT:title

The Aurora Hispanic Heritage Advisory Board is requesting approval to stage El Dia de Los Niños at the Spring and Lincoln parking lot on Saturday, April 30, 2016 from 1:00 to 5:00 pm.

PURPOSE:

This is a children's event promoting literacy, STEM and academic achievement.

 

BACKGROUND:

The AHHAB has coordinated El Dia de los Niños for the past 15 years.  All revenue generated is used for scholarships which are awarded at the annual Community Breakfast in January.  The board promotes community heritage, history and pride.  El Dia de los Niños is a direct reflection of the board's mission.

 

DISCUSSION:

El Dia de los Niños is coordinated by the AHHAB volunteer Mayoral appointed board with minimal City assistance prior to the event.

The event is budgeted in account number 215-1341-450.50-57.

 

 

IMPACT STATEMENT:

Assistance from the following City departments is necessary for the staging of the event: Fire Prevention, Public Information, EMA, Streets, Special Events, Community Services, MVPS, Water & Sewer and Downtown Maintenance (possibly electrical).  A detailed City Services Request is included as an attachment.

 

RECOMMENDATIONS:

 I recommend the proposed event be forwarded to the Government Operations Committee for review and approval.
