Authorization to Purchase an E-One brand 95 Ft. aerial platform truck from Fire Service Inc. of Saint John, In. for the amount not to exceed, $987,855.00 for the Aurora Fire Department through the services of the Houston-Galveston Area Council.
PURPOSE:
To purchase an E-One brand 95 Ft. Aerial platform truck which will allow T-11 (1998) to become a reserve aerial platform and remove current reserve T-21(1996) from service.
BACKGROUND:
Equipment Services has recommended that front line Fire Department aerial platform trucks get moved to reserve status when they are 17 years old. This practice allows former front line vehicles to be used as reserve vehicles that are reliable enough to be of service when the front line vehicles are in the shop for maintenance and repairs. The existing aerial platform (T-11) will replace a reserve aerial platform truck that will twenty-one (21) years old in 2017.
Equipment Services has recommended that AFD trade in surplus fire apparatus when replacement apparatus are purchased. Fire Service Inc. has agreed to accept reserve aerial platform T-21 as trade in vehicle and will provide a credit to COA of $10,000. This will reduce the net purchase price to $977,855.00 for the new apparatus.
DISCUSSION:
Fire Service Inc., the dealer for the E-One brand fire apparatus utilized by the Aurora Fire Department, is listed on the authorized provider list in the Houston-Galveston Area Council as having the lowest responsive bid for a 95 Ft. E-One brand aerial platform truck. The City of Aurora is a member of the Houston-Galveston Area Council and is able to meet all bidding requirements through this membership.
