SUBJECT: title
Resolution accepting the bid from Operational Performance Systems, Ontario, Canada to purchase 34 vehicle storage units for the Aurora Police Department.
body
PURPOSE:
To obtain the Finance Committee's and the City Council's approval of a proposed resolution that would authorize the purchase of the storage units and partitions for a total of $40,344.74.

BACKGROUND AND DISCUSSION:
When the Aurora Police Department was originally awarded the 2010 Edward Byrne Memorial Grant in 2010, we planned to use the funds toward the purchase of additional squad cars.  It later became apparent that we needed other items more than additional squad cars.  Storage units for our new Ford Utility squad cars was one of the needs.

City of Aurora Invitation to Bid # 13-54 resulted in six companies bidding on this project.  Companies were encouraged to submit bids with and without a partition that, when installed, would prevent items from entering the vehicle passenger compartment from the rear storage area.  OPS was the lowest bidder for proposals that included a partition, with a total cost of $40,344.74 for the 34 units and partitions.  34 units will allow us to equip all of the Ford Utility squads currently owned by the City of Aurora, as well as the anticipated Ford Utility vehicles anticipated to be purchased in 2014.

These grant funds are currently in general fund 101-3536-421.61-40.

RECOMMENDATION:
The recommendation is that the Finance Committee and the City Council adopt the attached resolution that would authorize the purchase of the 34 storage units and partitions, as proposed by OPS, for $40,344.74
