SUBJECT: title
A Traffic Study on Teasel Lane to determine the possibility of imposing parking restrictions. Ward 8, Alderman Mervine
body
PURPOSE:
To determine the appropriateness of parking restrictions on Teasel Lane.
BACKGROUND:
A resident sent an ACR Case ID 78506 expressing concern about the lack of restricted parking on Teasel Lane north of Red Clover Drive and south of Meadowridge Drive.
DISCUSSION:
Teasel is about 2.0 feet narrower than the City standard for residential streets. Installing one-side-of-street parking may be appropriate, especially in the inside stretches of sharp curves. When cars are parked on both sides of the street the remaining width is narrowed down to one lane.
While parking restrictions on Teasel Lane would be consistent with the City ordinance, staff has also received numerous concerns over the years regarding speeds on Teasel Lane. A full restriction of parking on one side would ultimately see increased average speeds along this corridor.
It should be noted that the request for parking restrictions has only come from a single resident at this time.
IMPACT STATEMENT:
Operations Department will be required to install approximately three no parking signs
RECOMMENDATIONS:
Staff recommends parking restriction on the southwest edge of the curved section only. Should the residents petition for restrictions on one side that would also be recommended for approval, with the understanding that parking restrictions will increase average speeds.
