SUBJECT:title
A Parking Study for Gillette Avenue. Ward 6, Alderman Saville.
body
PURPOSE:
A Parking Study for Gillette Avenue, in the 700 block, near the Gayles Memorial Baptist Church, to determine need for an on-street parking duration limitation.
BACKGROUND:
Alderman discussed Sunday parking issues with Pastor John McGowan of the Gayles Memorial Baptist Church. Residents frequently park in front of the Church for long durations on the weekend, including commercial vehicles, hindering access and near parking opportunities for attendees of the Church.
DISCUSSION:
Gillette Avenue is classified as a residential roadway, 30 feet in width, with a 25 mph speed limit. Implementing a parking duration limitation on the weekend, in front of the Church, west side of Gillette Avenue, may provide Church attendees improved access and near parking opportunities on Sundays and would allow residents to park without time duration limitation, during weekdays.
IMPACT STATEMENT:
Street Department & APD resources.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
Staff recommends installation of 4 hour duration parking, Saturday & Sunday, signage in front of the Church, on the west side of Gillette Avenue, along with random, selective parking enforcement by APD.
