PURPOSE:
A Traffic Study for Sullivan Avenue in the 2200 block to determine any additional traffic needs for Aurora Christian School.
BACKGROUND:
A Resident submitted PS # 1882076 requesting a Traffic Study to see whether additional traffic control was needed at 2255 Sullivan Road because of Aurora Christian School.
DISCUSSION:
Sullivan Road is located on a 26 acre lot on the corner of Sullivan Road and Bowman Drive. Both roadways are four lanes with a vegetated median. The speed limit on Sullivan Road, classified as a Major Collector, is an appropriate 40 mph.
Access to the school is primarily by vehicle, as is IMSA located to the east. On the main approach from the south on Eagle Lane (private), there are no sidewalks. There are no sidewalks approaching from the Bowman Drive side either. No pedestrian paths worn through the lawn were evident. It should be noted that Aurora Christian is a largely predominantly commuter school.

A pedestrian crosswalk across on Sullivan should be considered but is not appropriate at Elder Drive. Future crosswalks will be installed with enhanced traffic control.

RECOMMENDATIONS:
Staff recommends denial.
