PURPOSE:

A Traffic Study for Bowditch Avenue in the 800 block to determine the need for additional speed limit signage.

BACKGROUND:

A Resident submitted ACR Case ID 126529 requesting a Traffic Study for Bowditch Avenue in the area of the 800 block.

DISCUSSION:

Bowditch Avenue is the standard 29.5-ft in width.  The Bowditch Avenue and Arnold Avenue intersection is controlled by 4-way Stop signage.  There is sidewalk on both sides of Bowditch Avenue; Arnold Avenue does not have sidewalks.  Both roadways have curb and gutter, and the intersection is marked with Yellow Curb for No-Parking-Here-To-Corner.  The west side of Bowditch Avenue has NO PARKING THIS SIDE signage.  Bowditch Avenue had a reported vehicle vs. bicycle accident recently in the 800 block.

Bowditch is a short two block roadway.  There is a 25 mph speed limit sign at the entrance off of Rathbone Avenue.

Traffic counters placed at midblock for several weekdays revealed an ADT of 1,075 vpd.

Speed Limit on Bowditch Street is a residential 25 mph.  Measured average speed was 25 to 26 mph, mode speed was 26 mph, while the 85th percentile speed was found to be 30 to 31 mph.

IMPACT STATEMENT:
