TO: Mayor John Laesch
FROM: Christopher Linville, Superintendent of Fleet Operations
DATE: July, 16 2025
SUBJECT:
A Resolution authorizing the purchase of a replacement digger/derrick truck for the Electrical Division not to exceed the budgeted amount of $164,000.00.
PURPOSE:
To ensure that the Electrical Division has adequate equipment to perform their duties.
BACKGROUND:
The existing digger/derrick truck, used for utility pole installation and maintenance, lifting and positioning heavy materials, and working at various heights, is 25 years old. Due to its age, wear, and the limited availability of replacement parts, the truck has reached the end of its service life. The digger/derrick truck replacement was approved for 2025.
DISCUSSION:
To reduce costs and avoid lengthy build times, we will pursue a lightly used truck with low mileage and engine hours. Because these types of commercial vehicles are often available for only a limited time, I am requesting approval to move forward with a purchase not to exceed the budgeted amount.
The Fleet Maintenance Division will thoroughly evaluate any potential vehicle to ensure it is mechanically reliable and suitable for its intended use.
Funding to satisfy the cost will be drawn from Account 340-4020-418.75-10 ($164,000.00 budgeted).
IMPACT STATEMENT:
N/A
RECOMMENDATIONS:
That the City Council adopts a resolution authorizing the purchase of a replacement digger/derrick truck for the Electrical Division not to exceed the budgeted amount of $164,000.00.
