SUBJECT:title
A Traffic Study for Beau Ridge Drive in the 1400 block. Ward 6, Alderman Saville.
body
PURPOSE:
To conduct a traffic study on Beau Ridge Drive to determine need for traffic calming
BACKGROUND:
A Resident submitted ACR Case ID 124280 complaining of speeding on Beau Ridge Drive, especially during the times around 8am and 2:30pm, when Smith School opens and closes.
DISCUSSION:
The Traffic Study was conducted for five weekdays while Smith School was in session. A Traffic Study revealed that the Mean Speed was 20 mph, with an 85th percentile of 24 mph. A further inspection of the data revealed speeds do increase around 8am and 2:30pm, when Smith School opens and closes at those hours. But the Mean increases only to 21 mph southbound in the morning with a 85th percentile of 25 mph, and the Mean remains calm northbound in the afternoon at 21 mph, with an 85th percentile increases to 26 mph. The ADT for the roadway is 370 veh/day.
While there is an increase in traffic during the periods questioned, this is a typical traffic pattern near a school. The area in question does not meet the minimum speed nor volume to qualify for traffic calming.
IMPACT STATEMENT:
No Impact at this time.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
Staff recommends no action.
