SUBJECT:
A Resolution appointing Junelly Gonzalez to the Aurora Hispanic Heritage Advisory Board.
PURPOSE:
The purpose of this memo is to appoint a new member to the Aurora Hispanic Heritage Advisory Board (AHHAB).
DISCUSSION:
The AHHAB is a non-partisan, community-based, seventeen (17) member advisory board that supports and participates in activities that promote a deeper understanding of the Hispanic community. In addition to supporting community-wide events in Aurora, the AHHAB also hosts two major events, El Dia de los Ninos and a Community Breakfast. There are currently four (4) vacancies on the board.
RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended the City Council approve the appointment of Junelly Gonzalez to the Aurora Hispanic Heritage Advisory Board.

WHEREAS, the City of Aurora has a population of more than 25,000 persons and is, therefore, a home rule unit under subsection (a) of Section 6 of Article VII of the Illinois Constitution of 1970; and
WHEREAS, subject to said Section, a home rule unit may exercise any power and perform any function pertaining to its government and affairs for the protection of the public health, safety, morals, and welfare; and
WHEREAS, a vacancy exists on the Aurora Hispanic Heritage Advisory Board; and
WHEREAS, it is the Mayor's desire that the recommended candidate be appointed to said board.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Aurora, Illinois, hereby approve the appointment of Junelly Gonzalez, Aurora, IL as a member of the Aurora Hispanic Heritage Advisory Board.
