SUBJECT:
Resolution Establishing the Maximum Number of City of Aurora Liquor Licenses by Class.
PURPOSE:
To establish the number of Class A - Tavern license for the number of Class A licenses at 11.
BACKGROUND:
This request is presented in accordance with the 2011 amendment to the City's Liquor Ordinance, specifically Section 6-9(a), which charges the City Council with the authority to determine the number of licenses available in each classification.
DISCUSSION:
Lemono Corporation d/b/a Levee Karaoke & BBQ to be located at 4436 E. New York Street, Aurora, IL, has submitted a liquor license application for a Class A license for the purpose of selling to the general public alcoholic liquor by the drink for consumption on the premises where sold. The business is to be located within the new Pacific Square development. The site will be primarily for the purpose of Karaoke and will serve food.
Attached is the application submitted for your consideration. If approved, this resolution would maintain the number of allowable liquor licenses as indicated in the accompanying Exhibit A to allow for the issuance of the licenses by the Commissioner. City staff has been working with the business representatives to ensure that all requirements for a liquor license, as set forth in Chapter 6 of the City's Code of Ordinances, are met.
IMPACT STATEMENT:
The proposed resolution presents an opportunity to further the City of Aurora's economic development.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
I am recommending that this resolution be referred to the January 22, 2019 meeting of the Government Operations Committee for consideration and to be forwarded to the February 5, 2019 Committee of the Whole.
