Requesting approval to dedicate East Avenue between North Avenue and 4th Avenue as Walter E. Truemper Lane on Saturday, May 17th at Noon.

PURPOSE:
The purpose is the honor 2nd Lt. Walter E. Truemper's heroism by dedicating the block on which he grew up and his family lived for many years.
BACKGROUND:
Walter E. Truemper is the only Veteran from Aurora that was a recipient of the Medal Honor during World War II. Walter was born in Aurora on October 31, 1918 and killed in action on February 20, 1944 while on a bombing mission over enemy occupied Europe. The Truemper family has been, and is still present and active in the City of Aurora. A copy of the Medal of Honor Citation is attached to this request.
DISCUSSION:
The location of the proposed street dedication is the 800 block of East Avenue between North and 4th Avenues. Street closure will be necessary to assure a safe environment.
Expected attendance is approximately 50 guests.
Any associated costs are budgeted from the Special Events Division, budget line item 101-1341-450.50.69. Expenditures are expected to be minimal.
IMPACT STATEMENT:
Assistance is requested from the Street Department, Sign Shop and Central Services for the following:
2 Class III barricades with "No through Traffic" signs mounted and 4 Class I barricades placed at the corner of North and East Avenues and 4th and East Avenues on Friday, May 16th by 9:00 pm.
No Parking signs along the referenced block on May 16th by 3:00 pm.
Placement of street signs on street poles and cover for dedication
Fabrication of street signs "Walter E. Truemper Lane"
Staff to assist with set up and tear down
Staging of various equipment: flags and bases, chairs, table, tent, ladder, sound system, podium and any additional equipment as deemed necessary
The 800 block of East Ave to be swept on May 16th
