A Parking Study for N. Gladstone Avenue. Ward 6, Alderman Saville.
body
PURPOSE:
A Parking Study for N. Gladstone Avenue to determine the need for further parking restrictions in the 707 N. Gladstone Avenue.
BACKGROUND:
A resident submitted PS # 3380924 expressing concern about parking on both sides of N. Gladstone Avenue, which is a narrow roadway. Also complained of crashes at the south end of 707 N. Gladstone Avenue where vehicles turning north off Illinois Avenue would hit parked cars.
DISCUSSION:
N. Gladstone Avenue is a narrow roadway, only 26' wide. Parking on both sides of this roadway does not leave enough width for two-way traffic: this is especially critical for cars turning onto Gladstone off Illinois Avenue. Parking is in short supply in this area. Nevertheless, Gladstone is one of only two entrances to the Randall West Apartment Complex, and needs to be free-flowing for emergency vehicles. Removing parking on the east side of Gladstone, from Illinois Avenue to Monomoy Street, would improve two way traffic flow. Parking for approximately five vehicles would be removed.
IMPACT STATEMENT:
Operations would be responsible for installing and maintaining No Parking This Side signage on the east side of N. Gladstone Avenue from Illinois Avenue to Monomoy Street.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
Staff recommends installing No Parking This Side of Street signage on the east side of N. Gladstone Avenue from Illinois Avenue to Monomoy Street.
