TO: Mayor Robert J. O'Connor

FROM: Jim Birchall, Superintendent of Central Services.

DATE: April 10, 2017

SUBJECT:
Perform preventative maintenance at the APD parking deck including joint sealants and concrete repairs, as well as re-weld broken pre-cast embedment connections. Reseal the parking deck in 2018.

PURPOSE:
The parking structure at the APD was built in 2011. Preventative maintenance is needed to prolong the life of the structure.

BACKGROUND:
The parking structure has numerous leaks due to the expansion joint leaking. If the preventative maintenance is not done the structure will begin deteriorating causing an unsafe parking structure. This structure is used 365 days a year 24/7 at the Police Headquarters.

DISCUSSION:
This project is an approved decision package for $152,000.00. This includes a $5,000.00 contingency for additional and unforeseen work that may arise. The decision package also includes resealing the parking deck in 2018 for the amount of $64,000.00. The money for the preventative maintenance work, in the amount of $152,000.00, is located in account 255-1716-417-38.05.

IMPACT STATEMENT:
While the maintenance repairs are taking place all employees will be parking personal vehicles in the front parking lot of the Police Headquarters.

RECOMMENDATIONS:
I recommend that the contract be awarded to F.H. Paschen located at 5515 N. East River Road, Chicago, IL 60656, in the amount of $152,000.00.
