SUBJECT:
Resolution Establishing the Maximum Number of City of Aurora Liquor Licenses by Class.

PURPOSE:
To increase the number of Class S-1- Limited menu recreational facility licenses by one and decreasing the number of Class A - Tavern licenses by one.

BACKGROUND:
This request is presented in accordance with the 2011 amendment to the City's Liquor Ordinance, specifically Section 6-9(a), which charges the City Council with the authority to determine the number of licenses available in each classification.

DISCUSSION:
Salerno's Aurora, Inc. d/b/a Salerno's Pizzeria & R Bar, located at 85 Executive Drive, Aurora, Illinois, 60504 has submitted a liquor license application seeking a Class S-1 license for the purpose of selling to the general public alcoholic liquor by the drink for consumption on the premises where sold, and not for resale in any form, provided that such sales shall be only in conjunction with the sale of food for consumption on the premises. A limited menu will be offered between the hours of 9:00 p.m. and closing Sunday through Thursday, and between the hours of 10:00 p.m. and closing on Friday and Saturday.

Salerno's Pizzeria & R Bar is an existing establishment that is currently named The Foundry has recently been purchased by Salerno's Aurora, Inc. and desires to operate as a family friendly restaurant in the same space. The new owner would like to continue operation without disruption.

Attached is the application submitted for your consideration. If approved, this resolution would increase the number of allowable liquor licenses as indicated in the accompanying Exhibit A to allow for the issuance of the license by the Commissioner. City staff has been working with the business owner to ensure that all requirements for a liquor license, as set forth in Chapter 6 of the City's Code of Ordinances, are met.
