SUBJECT:title
A Traffic Study for the Featherock Drive and Sans Souci Drive intersection for possible STOP signage. Ward 5, Alderman Peters
body
PURPOSE:
To Perform a Traffic Study for a Request for STOP signage for the intersection of Featherock Drive and Sans Souci Drive.
BACKGROUND:
An ACR request (Case ID 86085) was submitted for the possible installation of a STOP sign at the intersection of Featherock Drive and Sans Souci Drive. The resident expressed safety concerns at the intersection.
DISCUSSION:
This intersection was considered for All Way STOP control previously to control speed and was deninied based on language from the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices that expressively states in Section 2B.04 'yield or stop signs should not be used for speed control'. A review of the accidents at this intersection does not indicate a required mitigation due to crash history. Traffic counts indicated an average speed of 27 mph on Sans Souci Drive. Featherock Drive is a short entrance to drive and for the purpose of this traffic study was not investigated for speed. After discussion with the resident and a review of previous considerations, staff believes a STOP sign for northbound Featherock would be appropriate to clarify right of way.
IMPACT STATEMENT:
No impact based on staff recommendation
RECOMMENDATIONS:
Staff Recommends installation of STOP sign for northbound Featherock as weather permits.
