SUBJECT:title
A Traffic Study for the intersection of Blossom Lane and Avalon Court. Ward 9, Alderman Bugg.
body
PURPOSE:
A Traffic Study for the intersection of Blossom Lane and Avalon Court to determine the need for traffic calming.
BACKGROUND:
A resident submitted PS # 3055649 expressing concerns for traffic volume and speeds on Avalon Court and Blossom Lane. They requested traffic calming, including speed bumps and warning signs.
DISCUSSION:
The intersection has a single Stop sign on southbound Blossom Lane as it approaches Avalon Court. Both roadways are residential with 25 mph speed limits. Curb, gutter, and sidewalks are all in place. Roadway width is the standard 29.5-ft. Neither street has any signed parking restrictions. Trees surrounding the intersection are overgrown with branches and need trimming.
Traffic Studies revealed Blossom Lane has an ADT of 300 vpd (vehicles per day). Blossom Lane was found to have an average speed of 20 mph. Due to the low traffic volumes and modest speeds, traffic calming is not warranted by the City of Aurora Traffic Calming Policy. However, tree trimming at the intersection would improve visibility.
IMPACT STATEMENT:
Operations would be responsible for necessary tree trimming.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
Staff recommends acceptance of the traffic study, and tree trimming for all approaches to the intersection.
