SUBJECT:
A Resolution Authorizing the Appointment of John Gilbert as Deputy Chief of Fire for the City of Aurora, Illinois.
PURPOSE:
To obtain City Council approval for the appointment of John Gilbert to the position of Deputy Chief of Fire for the Aurora Fire Department.
BACKGROUND:
Due to the retirement of Thomas Greiner, a vacancy exist for the positon Deputy Chief of Fire.
DISCUSSION:
The newly appointed Fire Chief, in conjunction with Human Resources, interviewed two internal Fire Department candidates who were interested in the position of Deputy Chief of Fire.
The recommended candidate has twenty-seven (27) years of experience and has proven himself to be a competent leader in the department and community.
A copy of his resume is attached for your review.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
It is recommended this item be forwarded to the City Council for approval.

WHEREAS, the City of Aurora has a population of more than 25,000 persons and is, therefore, a home rule unit under subsection (a) of Section 6 of Article VII of the Illinois Constitution of 1970; and
WHEREAS, subject to said Section, a home rule unit may exercise any power and perform any function pertaining to its government and affairs for the protection of the public health, safety, morals, and welfare; and
WHEREAS, a vacancy exists in the position of Deputy Chief of Fire by reason of the retirement of the current Deputy Chief; and
WHEREAS, the Mayor finds and determines that John Gilbert meets and exceeds all of the necessary qualifications and requisite skills and experience to perform the job requirements of the position; and
