SUBJECT:
A Resolution Reappointing Michael Kluber and Adam Marshall to the Electrical Commission.
BACKGROUND:
The Electrical Commission is a six (6) member commission established to comply with State and local ordinances. Any municipality with an electrical inspection department is also required to also have an electrical commission consisting of six members (65 ILCS 5/Art. 11 Div. 37). The ordinance goes on to specify the makeup of the commission, noting that if there is one position without a qualified candidate, the Mayor is free to appoint a person of a different electrical specialty to that position.
In 2014, the Building and Permits Division launched a campaign to find local candidates that fulfill the required membership make up of electrical contractor, journeyman electrician and representative of an electricity supply company. Staff was able to recommend qualified candidates for the Journeyman and the Contractor positions, but were unable to secure an electricity supply representative. As an alternative, they identified a candidate with residential contracting and electrical engineering experience, which has proved to be beneficial to the commission.
There is currently a couple of appointments that are expired and staff has requested to reappoint the members.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
It is recommended that the proposed reappointments to the Electrical Commission be approved.
