body

PURPOSE:

The Compassion Foundation raises money to give to nonprofits in the form of grants.

BACKGROUND:

The Compassion Foundation previously held this proposed event for 2 years in downtown Aurora.  150-200 people participated.  The Compassion Foundation did not submit an application to hold the event in 2016.  The fundraising involves people buying tickets that represent the individual ducks and win prizes if their ducks place in the prize winning category based on when the ducks cross the finish line in the river near Sci-Tech.

DISCUSSION:

The Compassion Foundation is requesting use of the south side of the Downer Place Bridge, between Stolp and River Streets.  The need to bring a truck with loader attached to dump the miniature plastic ducks in the Fox River where the ducks flow down the river and are picked up at the finish line near Sci-Tech.  There are other activities held at Sci-Tech that are a part of this event.  The compassion Foundation is expecting 300 people to participate and it is responsible for all costs associated with holding this proposed event.

IMPACT STATEMENT:

City services are needed from the Aurora Police Department to temporarily hold traffic on Downer Street until the ducks are dumped into the river and from the Aurora Fire Department Dive Team to monitor the flow of ducks and be at the finish line.

RECOMMENDATIONS:

Please forward to the Government Operations Committee for review/approval.
