SUBJECT:
A resolution appointing John Kenneth Leask and reappointing George Wells to the Aurora Veterans Advisory Council.

DISCUSSION:
The Aurora Veterans Council (AVAC) was re-established in 2012. The fifteen (15) member council is made up of residents who are: members in good standing of a Veteran's organization headquartered or historically active within the community, Veterans honorably discharged and immediate family members of a Veteran, deceased or living. The AVAC is tasked with assisting in any Veteran-related special events and activities, serving as a liaison between Veterans, Veteran's organizations, the Mayor, the City Council and the community as well as aiding in the solicitation of special events, activities, programs and/or funding related to Veterans.

There are currently expired terms and vacancies on the board.

RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended the City Council approve the appointment of John Kenneth Leask and the reappointment of George Wells to the Aurora Veterans Advisory Council.

WHEREAS, the City of Aurora has a population of more than 25,000 persons and is, therefore, a home rule unit under subsection (a) of Section 6 of Article VII of the Illinois Constitution of 1970; and

WHEREAS, subject to said Section, a home rule unit may exercise any power and perform any function pertaining to its government and affairs for the protection of the public health, safety, morals, and welfare; and

WHEREAS, expired terms and vacancies currently exist on the Aurora Veterans Advisory Council; and

WHEREAS, it is the Mayor's desire that the recommended candidates be appointed and reappointed to said Council.
