Requesting approval for the three City of Aurora's Farmers Markets to be held throughout the summer and fall of 2014.

PURPOSE:
The purpose of the market is to allow citizens to have convenient access to affordable, locally produced, healthful, farm-fresh food and to provide the opportunity to develop face-to-face relationships between residents and the area farmers.
 
BACKGROUND:
The Aurora Farmers Market is celebrating 102 years of continuous markets in the downtown. The market was designated as the oldest continuously operating Farmers Market in the State of Illinois by Governor Quinn in 2012 during its centennial year.
 
DISCUSSION:
Expenditures for this event have been appropriated in the Special Events budget, account number 101-1341-450.53-09.
 
The  downtown Farmers Market will be held at the Aurora Transportation Center, 233 N. Broadway, on the following dates: Saturday, May 17 for the Market Preview & Fox Valley Garden Club Plant Sale and each Saturday, June 7 through October 18, 2014 from 8:00 a.m. to12:00 p.m.; Aurora's Farmers Market West at West Aurora Plaza, 1901 W. Galena Blvd. each Wednesday, July 9 through September 10, 2014 from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.; Aurora's Farmers Market East located at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, 701 S. Eola Road each Thursday, July 10 through August 28, 2014 from 2:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
 
IMPACT STATEMENT:
A detailed listing of requested City Services is attached.  It includes assistance from the following departments/divisions: Fire Prevention, Police, Downtown Maintenance, Electrical, MVPS, Public Information, Water & Sewer and Streets.
 
RECOMMENDATIONS:
I request the proposed event be forwarded to the Government Operations Committee for approval.
