SUBJECT: title
Traffic Study Adamsway Driver Speed Bump installation Request near 2575 and 2571 Adamsway Drive - Ward 8 Alderman Mervine
body
PURPOSE:
A Traffic Study for the consideration of whether to install traffic calming measures per the City's Traffic Calming Policy (Resolution No. R04-360 - Passed 8/24/04) will also need to be adhered to.
BACKGROUND:
An ACR Case ID 74575 was submitted by resident requesting the installation of Speed Bumps on Adamsway.
Ward 8, Alderman Mervine
DISCUSSION:
The request expressed concern over speeds along Adamsway east of Vaughan Drive. The resident was concerned with cut thru traffic and speeding as related to children playing on sidewalks and crossing the street. A traffic study was conducted indicating an average daily traffic a 230 vehicles per day. The 85% speed varied greatly depending on direction of travel (WB=28MPH and EB=43MPH). While the eastbound speed is a bit alarming it is most likely associated with the very low sample size. The roadway does not qualify for traffic calming based on not making the minimum 500 vehicle per day threshold. While spot enforcement may have some benefit, the extremely low volume will make it an ineffective use of staff time. While there may be a few vehicles using this section of roadway as a cut thru, the volume and directional split does not indicate an issue worth investigating further.
IMPACT STATEMENT:
Based on staff recommendation there is no additional impact.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
Staff recommendation is to deny request based on Traffic Calming Policy.
