SUBJECT:title

A Parking Study for S. Ohio Street in the 401 to 418 block.  Ward 3, Alderman Mesiacos.

body

PURPOSE:

A Parking Study for the west side of S. Ohio Street in the 401 to 418 block to determine the warrants for new parking restrictions.

BACKGROUND:

A resident submitted PS # 2727543 expressing concern regarding parked vehicles on the west side of S. Ohio Street, between Harriet Avenue and Fourth Avenue.  The parked vehicles were reported to challenge visibility, for eastbound vehicles from Fourth Avenue and Harriet Avenue turning onto S. Ohio Street.

DISCUSSION:

N. Ohio is a wide 39-ft in width, wide enough for parking on each side and two-way traffic.  The roadway is classified as Major Collector with a speed limit of 30 mph.  A field visit to the intersection of Fourth Avenue and S. Ohio Street, produced the attached photos.  Field visit noted vehicles parking within 30 feet of Harriet intersection and no existing stop sign for the Fourth Avenue approach to S. Ohio Street.  Yellow curb does exist on the west side of S. Ohio Street near the intersection with Fourth Avenue.

IMPACT STATEMENT:

Operations would be responsible for installing the recommended signage.

RECOMMENDATIONS:

Staff recommends installing "NO PARKING HERE TO CORNER" signage, on the west side of S. Ohio Street, approximately 30 feet from the Harriet Avenue intersection. Install STOP sign for Fourth Avenue approach to S. Ohio Street. APD enforcement of parking restrictions.
