A Parking Study for the 0 to 100 block of N. Ohio Street. Ward 7, Alderman Hart-Burns.
body
PURPOSE:
A Parking Study for the 0 to 100 block of N. Ohio Street to determine the need to increase southbound traffic flow due to the two-way conversions.
BACKGROUND:
A Resident submitted ACR Case ID 134496 expressing concern of traffic congestion in the southbound 0 to 100 block of N. Ohio Street.
DISCUSSION:
N. Ohio Street is classified as an Arterial roadway. It has full pavement markings for lanes and intersections. It is wide enough for four lanes of two-way traffic plus a center left-turn lane. NO PARKING restrictions are in place for the northbound side between E. Galena Blvd. and E. New York Street, but the southbound lanes start as two lanes, then narrow down to one lane to allow for parking on the west side, then widen back to two lanes approaching E. Galena Blvd. There is no signage in the southbound lanes to regulate parking. Now, with two-way traffic on both E. Galena Blvd. and E. New York Street the southbound movement is developing a right turn demand.
All units on this stretch have off street parking available.
IMPACT STATEMENT:
Operations will be responsible for installing No Parking Any Time signage
RECOMMENDATIONS:
Staff recommends No Parking Any Time signage on the west side of Ohio Street from New York Street to Galena Boulevard.
