SUBJECT:title
A Parking Study for N. Gladstone Avenue. Ward 6, Alderman Saville.
body
PURPOSE:
A Parking Study for N. Gladstone Avenue for possible new parking restrictions.
BACKGROUND:
An E-mail (8/7/15) was submitted requesting NO PARKING THIS SIDE parking restrictions for either side of N. Gladstone Avenue, from Monomoy Street north to the Dead End.
DISCUSSION:
N. Gladstone Street is 26- to 26.5-ft in width, narrower than the city standard. Parking on both sides of the roadway allow traffic to pass in only one direction at a time. The entrance to N. Gladstone has a NO OUTLET yellow diamond sign with a supplemental 20 MPH sign attached.
While parking is in short supply in this area, restricting parking to one side of the street would be consistent with the City code based on the width of the roadway. Parking would be removed on the east side of the roadway to minimize the lost parking in an already high demand area.
IMPACT STATEMENT:
Operation will be required to install parking signage on Gladstone.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
Staff recommends 'No Parking This Side' signage on the east side of Gladstone from Monomoy north to the dead end. Also, the 20 MPH placard should be removed from the dead end sign as it is unenforceable and inconsistent will the Illinois Vehicle Code.
