PURPOSE:
The event promotes literacy among families in the Aurora community. Local school districts partner to sponsor child friendly literacy activities and provide free books to attendees.
 
BACKGROUND:
The AHHAB has coordinated El Dia de los Niños for the past 14 years.  All revenue generated is used for scholarships which are awarded at the annual Community Breakfast in January.  The AHHAB promotes community, heritage, history and pride and El Dia de los Niño's is a reflection of the board's mission.
 
DISCUSSION:
El Dia de los Niños is planned and coordinated by the AHHAB volunteer Mayoral appointed board with minimal City assistance prior to the event date.
 
The event is budgeted in account number 215-1341-450.50-57.
 
IMPACT STATEMENT:
Assistance from the following City departments is necessary for the staging of this event: Police, Fire Prevention, Public Information, EMA, Streets, Special Events, Community Services, MVPS, Water & Sewer and Downtown Maintenance. A detailed City Services request is attached.  
 
RECOMMENDATIONS:
I recommend the proposed event be forwarded to the Government Operations Committee for approval.
