PURPOSE:
The Moving Wall will be escorted by the Aurora Police and Aurora Fire Departments from Comfort Suites at Broadway and Spring Street to West Aurora High School campus on November 7th at 8 a.m. for the Vietnam Moving Wall Aurora exhibit.
Accompanying the Moving Wall procession are Veteran groups in vehicles and motorcycles taking approximately 1 hour. The APD is supportive of the recommended route: exit from Comfort Suites on Spring Street (west), Broadway (north), Illinois Avenue (west), Lake Street (south), Galena Boulevard (west) to West Aurora High School campus.
 
BACKGROUND:
The Moving Wall will be approximately 250 feet long which is half the size of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D. C. The last time the wall came to Aurora was 25 year ago.  Organizers are anticipating more than 300,000 visitors this year.
 
DISCUSSION:
City Services requested include: Police and Fire Personnel
 
IMPACT STATEMENT:
·      Police Squad to lead the processional
·      A fire engine following the Moving Wall
·      Police Squad to end the processional
·      Necessary officers deemed necessary by APD
 
RECOMMENDATIONS:
Please forward to the Government Operations Committee for review and approval.
