SUBJECT:title
Request by Rebuilding Together Aurora (RTA) to close May Street to through traffic from Illinois Avenue to New Haven Avenue, on April 25th and 26th. .
body
PURPOSE:
One of RTA's community improvement efforts is its annual April Rebuild Event. During the April Rebuild Event hundreds of volunteers assist financially challenged homeowners in making needed repairs to their houses. This year RTA is focusing its April Rebuild efforts in an area generally bounded by Highland Avenue, Florida Avenue, Grand Avenue, and Plum Street..

BACKGROUND:
The above mentioned street closure is being requested due to the large number of volunteers that will be working in a fairly concentrated area..

DISCUSSION:
RTA Aurora was established in 1993 as a local affiliate of the national Rebuilding Together organization. RTA's mission is to bring volunteers and communities together to improve the homes of low income homeowners so that they may live in warmth, safety, and independence. Since its inception, RTA has renovated over 500 homes in Aurora. RTA is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization.

IMPACT STATEMENT:
Due to the very low volume on traffic, closing May Street between Illinois Avenue and New Haven Avenue will have a negligible impact on the general public or City operations. The work performed during the April Rebuild Event will have a lasting impact on the neighborhood

RECOMMENDATIONS:
We respectfully request that Rebuilding Together Aurora be given permission to close May Street to through traffic from Illinois Avenue to New Haven Avenue.
