SUBJECT:

A Resolution Appointing Chief Gary Krienitz to the Aurora Fireman Pension Board.

 

DISCUSSION:

The Aurora Fireman Pension Board is a five member board. Three of the five members are elected, two by active pension members and one by the beneficiaries. The remaining two members are appointed by the Mayor. Currently, one of the two appointed seats is vacant.

 

RECOMMENDATION:

It is recommended the City Council approve the appointment of Chief Gary Krienitz to the Aurora Fireman Pension Board.

WHEREAS, the City of Aurora has a population of more than 25,000 persons and is, therefore, a home rule unit under subsection (a) of Section 6 of Article VII of the Illinois Constitution of 1970; and

 

WHEREAS, subject to said Section, a home rule unit may exercise any power and perform any function pertaining to its government and affairs for the protection of the public health, safety, morals, and welfare; and

 

WHEREAS, a vacancy currently exists on the Fireman Pension Board; and

 

WHEREAS, it is the Mayor's desire that said candidate be appointed.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Aurora, Illinois, hereby approve the appointment of Chief Gary Krienitz, Plainfield, IL as a member of the Aurora Fireman Pension Board.

 

NOW BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the term of Chief Gary Krienitz shall expire April 30, 2019, however, in any event, he shall continue to serve until his respective replacement has been approved by the Council
