Title: A Traffic Study on Pennsylvania Ave. for the installation of Handicap signage - Ward 6, Alderman Saville
Sponsors: Public Works

FROM:      Eric J. Gallt, City Traffic Engineer

DATE:      December 31, 2013

SUBJECT: title
A Traffic Study on Pennsylvania Ave. for the installation of Handicap signage - Ward 6, Alderman Saville
body
PURPOSE:
To determine the feasibility of installing Handicap signage on Pennsylvania Avenue.

BACKGROUND:
A concerned resident submitted an ACR Case ID 82197 requesting handicap signage for 610 Pennsylvania Avenue.  Requested sign to make it easier to transport.

DISCUSSION:
Nature of Handicap is related to dialysis patient.  There is no sidewalk connection through the parkway.   A ramp exists with access from front door to sidewalk.   The property in question does have a driveway.   The standard test for approval for a handicap sign on a public street remains either a lack of driveway or lack of access to driveway due to multi family residence.  Neither test was met.

IMPACT STATEMENT:
Action would require installation of Handicap signage at or near 610 Pennsylvania Avenue.

RECOMMENDATIONS:
Staff recommends denial.
